Former EPFL PhD student wins APS award
Given by the American Physical Society (APS) since 2013, the Carl E. Anderson award “recognizes doctoral research in the Laser Science area and encourages effective written and oral presentation of research results.” Winners are selected to present their work at a special Dissertation Award Session of the annual APS Division of Laser Science meeting, and receive $750 in travel stipends and certificates, with an additional $1,000 stipend and certificate.
This year, the Carl E. Anderson award has gone to Edoardo Baldini. Baldini carried out his PhD at the EPFL under the supervision of Professors Majed Chergui and Fabrizio Carbone. Currently at MIT, Baldini also won a Chorafas Prize and a Springer Prize for his PhD thesis, “Nonequilibrium Dynamics of Collective Excitations in Strongly Interacting and Correlated Quantum Systems”.
The APS Citation for the Award to Baldini reads: “For implementing novel ultrafast optical spectroscopy techniques to identify and control collective excitations in quantum materials, leading to major contributions in the fields of excitonics and phononics.”
