Cu/CeO_2-x heterodimers are presented as one of the prime examples where metal/metal oxide synergistic effects promote CO₂RR. The development of a colloidal seeded-growth synthesis was crucial to connect these two highly mismatched domains through an interface and to tune their structure so to elucidate its impact on their electrocatalytic behaviour.
